Please note: This course is not suitable for beginners. A knowledge
of basic watercolour procedures is required.

This course is suitable if you have knowledge and skill in the
basic procedures of watercolours and wish to advance beyond
the beginner level. Be prepared to have your concept of watercolour
landscape painting dramatically expanded. You will explore
the wet-in-wet technique, the transparency of the medium and
traditional and intuitive approaches to composition and painting.
There will be opportunity to experiment with a variety of painting
tools, painting styles and techniques. You will have an opportunity
to improve your mastery of colour gradations, negative painting
and colour use. Specific topics of study include wet-in-wet procedures,
colour schemes and pigment characteristics. Individual
needs and problems will be addressed and, to this end, you will
be encouraged to contribute to the direction of the course by the
types of demonstrations you request.

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

Learn to see colour as value in black in white and how to identify value and intensity as they relate to colour. Build a solid foundation and develop a keen eye to create stronger compositions by organizing how you pattern analogous or contrasting values and intensities together in your work. Create expressive mood in your paintings by using these methods to expose subtle nuances as well as learning to identify temperature and how to mix fresh clean colour. Discover the mysteries of making better value and colour choices to fill your paintings with colour and light. Subject matter will be nature based and semi-abstract to realist in approach. You can choose to work in the media of acrylic, watercolour or pastels. Instruction is suitable to all skill levels.

There will be a $6.00 material fee payable to the instructor for a value view finder, tracing and transfer paper. All other art materials are to brought by the participant. Drawing and painting classes for adults.

This next set of drawing and painting sessions is designed to further advance your skill level in the media of your choice. Come and learn from a qualified instructor eager to share her years of experience. Janine has a strong background in art and design coupled with a sound knowledge of colour in all media. She will be giving in class demos and group discussions on using art materials and methods which will allow you to learn how to push your limits and improve your style. Gain a better understanding of how to develop strong compositions, mix any colour you want, and create more exciting paintings. Constructive critiques will be given with plenty of guidance and encouragement to strengthen your skills. All media is accepted. Subject matter will be varied according to your needs.

Scared silly about making the leap?? Janine will teach you everything you need to get you going in the media of acrylics, watercolour, oils and pastels, or you can start at the beginning with drawing skills where you will be working in graphite and charcoal. Composition, form, value and other basic techniques will be explored to give you confidence. Not sure what media you want to work in? Not to worry…I have supplies on hand for you to try out to help you decide your course of direction. Small class sizes, art demos, and plenty of practical guidance all in a warm and encouraging class given by local artist Janine Marson. Come on… art is fun and good for your soul and keeps your brain active and healthy!

Classes will be held in the gallery of The Huntsville Art Society called the artspace, located across from River Mill Park. Look for the Huntsville Art Society sign above the white French doors, tucked in beside the patio of The Mill on Main. Preregistration is required with a deposit for your spot.
